Sangam literally means “gathering, meeting, fraternity and academy”.

The Sangam age was popular for the development of the Tamil language where various literature compositions were compiled and brought into light. Sangam literature is one of the main sources used for documenting the early history of the ancient Tamil country. The ancient Sangam poems mention numerous kings and princes, the existence of some of whom have been confirmed through archaeological evidence.

What is Sadir?

Sadir, also known as "Sadir Attam," is the ancient classical dance form that eventually evolved into Bharatanatyam. Traditionally performed in the temples of South India by devadasis, Sadir was an expressive and devotional dance that combined intricate footwork, graceful gestures, and storytelling through abhinaya (expression). The dance was not only a form of artistic expression but also a spiritual offering to the deities. Over time, Sadir transitioned from temple rituals to theater stages, undergoing changes that shaped it into modern Bharatanatyam while retaining its deep cultural and spiritual significance.
